Why Buckle Up?
- 3 people are injured, 1 seriously, in motor vehicle accidents in Malaysia every hour. 20 people die in road accidents every day.
- Safety belts when used properly reduce the number of serious traffic injuries by 50% and fatalities by 60-70%.
- Of every 100 children who die in motor vehicle crashes at least 80 would survive if they were properly secured in an approved child safety seat or safety belts.
How to Buckle Up?
- Remind yourself and passengers to Buckle Up by affixing the Buckle Up Car Sticker in your vehicle.
- Children below 135cm must use a special child seat
- Never allow your child below 135cm in the front passenger seat. They must be seated in the rear passenger seat for their own safety. Adult seat belts and passenger airbags were not designed for children and may increase severity of accident for children.
When to Buckle Up?
- Buckle up the kids in the rear seat first
- Ensure you and all passengers buckle up before the vehicle is in motion
- Always Buckle Up. 75% of car accidents occur within 40km of home. More than half of all injury-producing motor vehicle crashes involve low speeds under 65 km/h\2. Short trips, long trips, in the car park, within the house compound - Always buckle up.
